Free bulky waste collections by Serco in areas most impacted by flooding caused by Storm Henk

Charnwood Borough Council news

Serco will be carrying out a free bulky waste collection in areas most impacted by the flooding caused by Storm Henk at the start of January.

Collections will start from Saturday February 3 in villages and towns including Barrow, Cossington, Mountsorrel, Newtown Linford, Quorn, Rearsby, Rothley, Sileby, Swithland, Syston and Thurcaston.

A full list of streets and dates can be found on the Council’s website. The roads and streets Serco will visit have been selected because we have received notification that residential properties have experienced internal flooding.

There will be several vehicles out and about carrying out collections.

Depending on the types of items presented, different items may be collected on different days and multiple collections may be necessary. (This is due to how we must legally dispose of some bulky waste, such as sofas and chairs, separately to other bulky waste, such as wardrobes and electrical items)

Residents are being advised to leave their items out and crews will return as soon as they can. We are hoping to complete collections across the borough by Friday February 9.

We will only collect household waste (carpets, furniture, domestic electric appliances etc) from residential properties.

Construction waste such as plaster, bricks, skirting boards and internal doors will not be collected and residents are advised to take this type of waste to their local tip.

Items need to be presented at the boundary of the property by 6am from the day of collection. Serco will not enter gardens or properties to collect items.

Further information about the collections can be found on the Charnwood Borough Council’s website
