Markets and Fair cake competition at Loughborough market
Creative cake makers are being invited to take part in a competition in Loughborough town centre on Saturday December 4.
Charnwood Borough Council is hosting the event as part of its continued celebrations of the 800th anniversary of the Royal Charter being granted for Loughborough Markets and Fair.
People can bring their cakes down to a stall in the Market Place (outside Loughborough Town Hall) between 10am and 2pm.
All cakes must have a markets and fair theme to be eligible for the competition. It could be a fruitcake with a marzipan market stall on top. Or a chocolate cake in the shape of a Helter Skelter. The choice is yours.
This competition is one for the grown-ups so entry is for people aged 18 and over. Participants can sign up for the competition in advance via the Council website or turn up on the day with their cake to take part.
The main prize is a £50 LoyalFree voucher to spend online and/or in shops and stores.
The winner will be announced on the day on social media and will be contacted to arrange for the collection of their prize. All participants will be given a tote bag and some markets and fair themed goodies.
There will also be live music at the stall and the famous Loughborough market will be running as normal on the day, so there will be lots to see and do.
Councillor Jenny Bokor, lead member for Loughborough, said: “We are delighted to be hosting another fun event at our fantastic Loughborough market in the lead up to Christmas.
“Our cookie and cake competition in August was followed by a pumpkin decorating competition in October, and both were a huge hit with children. Now it’s the adults time to shine and show off their cake-making skills.
“The 800th anniversary of the markets and fair has seen many great events take place this year, and I am confident that we’ll see a good number of participants and have plenty of fun on the day. We look forward to seeing you all.”
The event is being funded thanks to the Welcome Back Fund which is supported by the European Regional Development Fund.
