New campaign encourages residents to Love the outdoors in Charnwood
A campaign to highlight the fantastic range of parks, woodland and open spaces in Charnwood is being launched today.
The ‘Love the outdoors in Charnwood’ campaign, launched by the borough council, is encouraging people to explore the beautiful outdoor spaces available on their doorstep, enjoy being amongst nature and spend time outside in the fresh air.
Whether you enjoy listening to the morning birdsong at the Outwoods at Loughborough, meeting friends for a picnic at Bradgate Park or taking a short walk at Watermead Country Park, there are plenty of places to explore.
And one of the key aims of the campaign is to highlight Charnwood’s hidden gems such as Morley Quarry in Shepshed and Booth Wood in Loughborough.
Cllr Jenny Bokor, the Council’s lead member for Loughborough and open spaces said: “Love the outdoors in Charnwood is a borough-wide campaign which looks to showcase the wide range of different outdoor spaces we are lucky to have in our local community.
“Parks became a safe place for us to exercise and meet with others during the pandemic and this campaign encourages people to continue enjoying and making the most of the outdoors.
“Spending time outside in the fresh air can have such a positive impact on not only your physical wellbeing but also your mental wellbeing. There is so much wonderful open space to visit in Charnwood and I would urge residents to spend some time exploring what’s on offer.”
The Council maintains over 600 acres of open spaces in Charnwood including local nature reserves like Morley Quarry, the award-winning Queen’s Park in Loughborough as well as ancient woodland sites such as the Outwoods.
There are also many other much-loved outdoor places to visit across the borough including Watermead Country Park, Cossington Meadows and Bradgate Park.
As part of the campaign, a series of short videos have been created to showcase some of the stunning places people can visit across the borough.
The videos are available to view on the Council’s website and will be shared across its social media channels.
In addition, a leaflet has been produced to provide an overview of the campaign and includes a map demonstrating where some of the amazing sites can be found.
The leaflet is being made available at local venues and can also be downloaded from the Council’s website.
As well as highlighting some of the key areas of interest in the borough, the campaign is encouraging people to get involved.
The council wants to hear what residents and visitors think of Charnwood’s breathtaking landscapes and share their pictures, videos and views.
